With the advent of online shopping, online marketing has also begun to rise. Personal email accounts are the fastest and most accurate way to get the attention of the consumer and that is exactly what promotional codes are all about.

These online coupons are found in everybody's email inboxes and include a variety of items from photo prints to wooden flooring. The codes are to be entered after purchasing the item they are meant for and a percentage of the price is automatically discounted.

It is seen that when people get these promotional codes in their email inboxes, they get excited and use the promotional codes just because they have them. With the passage of time and ownership of several unnecessary items, they realize that promotion codes are in fact a strong marketing trick which often makes people buy unwanted products just because they think they have a good deal.

Promotional codes are available throughout the year and even if they haven't been emailed to you directly to you, they can be taken from search engines and each store's individual website. There are several websites dedicated to promotional codes. Common examples include: currentcodes.com, couponcabin.com, dealnews.com etc. In these websites, all items are listed in alphabetical order to simplify the process.

One business might have more than one code, so be sure to see whether it is smarter to use the 20 per cent discount or get the free shipping offer. Promotional codes are an absolute must for online shopping. Once you chose your items and are putting in the code, pay special attention to whether the code is in upper or lower case.

Another important point to remember is to check for the expiry. Once your purchase is complete, and you are ready to check out, do confirm if the code has been applied. Even though this doesn't happen often, it's worth checking just in case.

A smart shopper doesn't only compare the cost of the item, but there are several other factors involved, including the shipping and handling fee, the delivery time and most importantly, whether you want the item or are just buying it to avail the offer. In reality, promotional codes are a great help to the online shopper, but keep your eyes open for marketing gimmicks and tricks which may trap you unaware and make you end up paying for something you didn't want in the first place.
