Schizophrenia Relapse Prevention And Treatment Adherence

Schizophrenia is a brain illness and its treatment is complex, is a long-term treatment, involves a lot of drugs witch have a lot of side effects.

In this treatment, a schizophrenic patient needs not only a doctor support. He needs his family, his friends and all the things that are connected with social integration of a schizophrenic patient. The doctor that treat the patient is very important also, because he must prescribe the right treatment and the right doses of medication.
The family members must take care that the patient takes this treatment right, that he takes all his pills, and must be careful at the side effect that can appear. If there are side effects, they must inform immediately the doctor, so he can modify the treatment to remove the side effects.

The doctor will determine plasmatic levels of the drugs, so he can find out if the treatment is well, if the doses of drugs are at the normal level.

For those patient who does not gain a family support, the treatment is administrated in special hospitals so the patient can be supervised.

New methods of treatment appear. They introduced injectable treatment witch have a long-term action, and the patient need to have this injection once a month. Also injectable treatment has lower side effects and a better compliance. Not as an alternation to the drugs treatment, and more to help schizophrenic treatment the patient can obtain psychotherapy support. It is very useful in preventing self-injury and even suicide.

Another non-drugs method of treatment is social therapy, group therapy and many other therapy methods and it helps the patient to face the real world, to find out what is real and what in not.

All this methods together can be used for a good compliance in the best interest of schizophrenic patient.
