Health And Wellness Is Our Responsibility. Do You Care About You?
I have to say that I just love the internet when it comes to researching facts and figures. Don't you? However, one has to be careful when reading up on issues relating to health and wellness. Apart from being an unlimited source of great info, there is also a fair bit of misinformation out there in cyber space too. Unfortunately, the World Wide Web has turned a very good friend of mine into a chronic hypochondriac.
The poor girl was fine before she started looking on health sites and within 6 months she got 2 terminal illnesses, a tropical parasite, and no less that 7 food allergies. She hasn't of course, but she's convinced herself she has and even the family doctor is having problems convincing her otherwise. Of course, not everyone is a gullible as my friend, but self diagnosis, and worse still, a belief in the virtual health and wellness library over a real physician is becoming a major problem for the medical profession.
When the internet is used correctly, there's no real harm to be had. In fact it can be a real asset with its abundance of sales, services, and limitless information on just about every subject under the sun, including health and wellness.
I often look up remedies and cures for minor ailments and I've even recently looked up symptoms for prostrate cancer, but when it comes to the 'big' issues like the later, the doctor always has the final say. For many of us when we reach the grand old age of 40, we can't help but be a little more concerned about health and wellness issues. That feeling of being indestructible that we possessed as youngsters doesn't carry on into middle age and beyond. Many of us aging folks go for annual health checks these days just so we can get a little piece of mind.
Of course, when it comes to health and wellness in general, most of us are aware of the dos and don'ts in order to stay in relatively good shape and keep the surgeons knife at bay. By that I mean none of us are so naive that we slump into our armchairs with the Portable computer wobbling on top of morbidly obese legs only to do a search on something a ridiculous as 'is it unhealthy to be fat?' Health and wellness is our responsibility to a large part and most of this is down to how we feel about ourselves.
I lost a dear friend of mine only last year. He was a good age when he died and at 81 he was still smoking cigarettes and drinking strong ale until his final hours. He'd often boast how it was his booze and cigarettes which kept him going for so long. The bottom line is he could have lived another 15 or 20 years without them but who knows. What I do know, is that he wasn't happy from the age of 70. He became quite frail, had 2 stokes, was house bound, and needed daily care from friends and volunteers just to keep him ticking over. I think that even he knew deep down that his 'quality' of life could have been better if he's taken care of his general health and wellness.
Hey, it's never too late to start taking better care of yourself. The body is an incredible thing and if you look after it, it will look after you. Health and wellness doesn't derive out of procrastination, and fast foods. You know what you need to do to change, or if you do need a little help, hop online and do a search on healthy lifestyles.
