Eye bag removal - Blepharoplasty

Eye bag removal / Blepharoplasty

There was this old adage that says beauty is in the eye of the beholder? Man's concept of beauty has experience a lot of evolution through time; this dynamic concept will continue to experience changes for the rest of man's tenure on earth. Self adornment through the use of cosmetics, clothes, hairstyles or jewelry is widely accepted today. And with continued growth in science and technology especially in the field of Cosmetic Plastic, physical enhancement through surgery has gained momentum in the public's interest. More and more people are becoming aware and conscious of the way they look and the changes that they experience as they get older. And aging is an evitable fact of life.

The skin surrounding the eyes is the area where the first signs of aging set in. Usually, as early as the 2nd to 3rd decade of life. These are skin redundancy, fat protrusion in the periorbital area, wrinkled drooping layers of the skin on the eyelids, and sagging eyebrows, which gives the face a tired, sad or angry expression. These are the first perceptible signs of aging, although pronounced eye bags and excessive upper eyelid hoods are hereditary conditions that can be seen in men and women from as young as their twenties.

Our eyes is of great value to us, besides from being the center beauty of our face, it's through our eyes that we are able to communicate our emotions or feelings with other people. The effects of ageing give its toll to your eye's skin and appearance, giving a sad and tired look. This in effect results to loss of self esteem and to some extent social acceptance. These changes could be address and improve by Blepharoplasty procedure or commonly known to us as eye bag removal.

Blepharoplasty is one of the most common surgical cosmetic plastic procedure performed today, with patient raging from late 30's to 70's. The procedure intend to reshape and rejuvenate the upper and lower eye lid by removing and/or repositioning excess tissue or fat, as well as reinforcement of the surrounding muscles and ligaments. But there are times that changes at the upper lids are severe enough to obstruct the patient's field of vision due to overhanging skin. Then the primary purpose of the procedure would be to improve eye function by removing the excess skin with secondary improvement on the eye appearance to a more crisper and youthful form.

Blepharoplasty is performed through an external skin incision on the upper lids and below the lashes of the lower lids, this is oriented along the natural skin creases of the eye lid, so that the resulting scar would be inconspicuous. The procedure usually lasts for 1 to 3 hours, under local anesthesia or if patient prefer, it could also be done under intravenous sedation or deep sedation. There would be mild swelling or bruising on the first 2 to 3 days after the procedure that eventually subsides after 1 to 2 weeks, but the complete resolution of swelling and final result could be appreciated after several months. In the United States, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery the average physician/surgeon fee for Blepharoplasty for 2005 would be around $2,813. That covers only the surgeon's fee and does not include the fee for the surgical facility, anesthesia, medical test, prescriptions and other miscellaneous cost related to the surgery. Blepharoplasty package in the Philippines are relatively cheaper compared to the United States, and package usually includes the surgeons fee, anesthesiologist fee, operating room cost, intraoperative medication and pre/post procedure consultation.
